Cowboy-spirited emerging artist
Dastan Khosraw
Dastan is an emerging artist whose life has been shaped by adventure, resilience, and an enduring spirit of curiosity. A cowboy drifter at heart, he has traveled extensively around the world and lived in many places. Since settling on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi in 2018, he has found the place he truly calls home.
Throughout his life, Dastan has embraced every opportunity to experience the world firsthand. He pursued his passion for the ocean as a sailor, challenged himself in the mountains as a rock climber, and explored countless roads on his bike and motorcycle. Guided by a lifelong desire to learn quickly, live fully, and remain present in each moment, he has continually sought new experiences and personal growth.
His fascination with cars and engines led him to a successful career as a technical engineer. However, a bad motorcycle accident that left him temporarily paralyzed became a profound turning point. Determined to regain his health, he immersed himself in the study of yoga, using its principles to rebuild his body and restore his mobility. His transformative journey inspired him to become a yoga teacher, and while sharing his practice with others, he also managed several yoga studios in California.
Dastan discovered his passion for painting and drawing later in life, after retiring and marrying his wife, Blanka, an accomplished artist. Inspired by watching her creative process and listening to her thoughtful insights about art, he picked up a pencil and began drawing horses. His fascination soon expanded into the rich history and culture of Hawaiʻi's paniolo tradition, including its ranching heritage and rodeo lifestyle. Today, Dastan's work reflects both his adventurous life and his deep appreciation of a free spirit. Encouraged by the enthusiasm of collectors, he continues to grow as an artist and welcomes the opportunity to create meaningful commissioned works.
